Quittance

Terms of service

Last updated September 29, 2026

These terms cover your use of Quittance at quittance.tax. By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the site.

  1. What the service is

Quittance is software that runs in your browser. It reads a Pub 1220 (FIRE) file you choose, checks it against IRS rules, and makes IRIS files and a conversion report for you to download.

Quittance makes files. It does not file anything with the IRS for you. It is not tax, legal or accounting advice. Quittance is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the IRS.

  2. You are responsible for what you file

You decide what to file, and you file it yourself with your own IRIS account and TCC (Transmitter Control Code, the ID the IRS gives each filer).

Before you file, review every file we make and the conversion report that comes with it. The report lists returns in and out, box totals in and out, and anything not carried over. If something looks wrong, don't file it until you've fixed it.

You are responsible for the accuracy of your source file, for meeting IRS deadlines and for any penalties. You must have the right to process the data in the files you open.

  3. The free trial and paid work

The preview is free and needs no sign-up. The free trial gives each email address 2 exports, after you confirm the address with a code we email you. One trial per person or company. We may end or change the trial.

There is no checkout on this site. If you need more, contact us. Any paid work is by separate written agreement, and that agreement's terms apply to it.

  4. Acceptable use

    Don't:

    • use the site to break any law, or to process data you have no right to process
    • try to get around the trial limit, for example with made-up email addresses
    • attack, overload, scan or probe the site or its servers
    • copy, resell or rebrand the site or its output as your own service without our written agreement
  5. No warranty

Quittance is provided "as is" and "as available". We do our best to follow public IRS publications, but IRS rules and formats change, and we don't promise that the software is free of errors, that every file will be accepted, or that the site will always be available. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

  6. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Quittance and its owner are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for IRS penalties, interest, lost profits or lost data, that come from using or not being able to use the site. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100 if you paid nothing.

  7. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction]. Any dispute goes to the courts of [jurisdiction].

  8. Changes

We may change these terms. When we do, we update the "Last updated" date on this page. If you keep using the site after a change, the new terms apply.
